So ...Change of Plans!

So I think I posted on here a while ago that I wasn't planning on using cloth diapers during the "newborn" stage or right from the beginning with Isaac. I had started to stock up on Pampers Swaddlers and have quite a few boxes under the bed in the nursery. But now that Noah's potty trained I haven't got to use cloth diapers since June and I'll admit I am seriously having cloth diaper withdrawals!

So just randomly out of the blue, I have decided I am going to give newborn cloth diapering a try! I'm not going to pressure myself to do it and if it's too much and I get overwhelmed I do have a nice stockpile of disposables to use, but I just have fluffy fever and want to give it a try! I've purchased some BG newborn AIOs and some Grovia newborn AIOs and I have some Fuzzibunz one-size as well as a whole array of one-sized diapers from Noah to use. I plan on getting some prefolds and covers to try also.

I've become all cloth obsessed again and have been buying diapers like crazy lately! (Thank heaven for birthday money!) But I still don't know much about newborn cloth diapering. So if you have cloth diapered a newborn or very young infant, I want to hear from you!! Give me your best advice, tell me your favorite diapers, tell me what was the hardest about it!  I want to hear anything you have to tell me about cloth diapering a newborn! I'm all ears and eager to learn! :)

  1. I also planned on waiting a bit, but then sometime in the first few weeks I thought I'd try it out. I think all I had at the time were hybrids. I had small Gdiapers (cloth & flushables) & one size Grobaby covers (now Grovia) with cloth inserts (still haven't tried the biosoakers. Funny thing is that I found that cloth worked better than the sposies. We were having more blowouts with the sposies than the cloth so by the time he was about a month old I stopped using sposies all together.

  2. The easiest thing for me was to have diapers ready to go everywhere. I did a mixture of different brands of pockets. I made sure I had them stuffed and ready to go. Also, small prefolds and covers are super easy for newborns! My newest little guy is due at the end of November and I'm almost done getting all his fluff - I'm so stinking excited!

  3. I couldn't wait either. I used mostly prefolds and covers (Thirsties Duo covers in size 1 and Bummis covers in small). That worked great! I also used a grobaby, rocky mountain OS, and Softbums OS diapers.

My favorite was probably Thirsties Duo Diapers. I had 3 and I used those for going out and for Grandma because they were easy and very absorbent.

The best thing about diapering a newborn in cloth is that there are so many LESS blowouts!
Also, don't know if you know this but if the baby is exclusively breastfed, you don't even need to wash off the poo. It is water soluble and will wash out in the washer. May sound gross but it really works!

    Happy diapering!

  4. We used them as soon as we got home from the hospital. We used prefolds and covers mostly in that newborn stage (I agree with Thirsties Size 1 for both the covers or the Duo Diaper for a pocket option).

I don't know if you follow it, but Abby's Lane just had this on their blog...http://thecloththatcounts.wordpress.com/2011/09/23/cloth-diapering-newborns/

  5. Oh, and a couple weeks in, our favorite combo was prefolds during the day, and easier diapers (pockets. AIOs, even fitteds/covers) in the middle of the night!

  7. We cloth diapered Baby S from day one, with pre-folds and covers (we have a service that washes and delivers the pre-folds). I think diapering a newborn is easier than and older child- they overflow their diapers much less! It was very easy, no problems.

  8. Prefolds and covers fit well on newborns - I like Thirsties covers. I found I did not like Bummis covers as much - I'm not sure why but I could not get a good fit with those.
I also used Rumparooz Lil Joeys when we were out and about because they were easy and I loved the fit of these. But my baby outgrew them very quickly.
I also loved Applecheeks - great fit from birth, and they fit til he was about 17 lbs, so we got a lot of use out of them. If I was diapering a newborn again, I would get more of these and also some of the new Grovia newborn diapers because I've heard good things about them.
