Mother's Day Cloth Diaper Giveaway Hop Sponsor Spotlight + Review! {Sunbaby Diapers!}

I get to tell you about another great sponsor for the Mother's Day Cloth Diaper Giveaway Hop, starting this Tuesday, May 1st!

Our next sponsor spotlight is Sunbaby Diapers! The creator of Sunbaby Diapers is Sun Pei who is from Shanghai, China. She actually knew nothing about cloth diapers until she was online one day buying baby products for her son who was 5 months old at the time. After learning more about cloth diapers her and her husband did some research and started Sunbaby Diapers! Sunbaby diapers are made with the greatest quality fabrics, snaps, and elastic. They are manufactured only in Shangai and Sun Pei is the only seller of Sunbaby Diapers, so the cost is super affordable!

I was sent the new Sunbaby 4.0 Pocket Diaper to review! The outer layer is made of waterproof PUL and the inner layer is soft micro-fleece. The insert is made of microfiber and slips in the pocket opening.
A lot of my cloth diapering mom friends have used Sunbaby diapers and really love them! But I had never tried them until now. To be quite honest, I was convinced that the low price would match the quality. But as soon as I received the diaper, I knew I was wrong. This diaper is just as great as some of the highest priced diapers in the market! I really like the snaps on this diaper. There are two snaps around the waist on each side, and a hip snap for a great fit around the legs. The hip snap is great because a lot of babies have really skinny legs and the diaper needs to fit a little tighter, and then there are babies like my little guy that has big chubby legs that don't need for the diaper to be to tight around the legs. The diaper is also really absorbent and holds  everything in perfectly. Anytime I put a new diaper on little man he ALWAYS poops in it, but in this case it was a good thing because I got to see how well it really holds everything in! We haven't had any pee or poopy leaks in this diaper!
Overall, I really love Sunbaby diapers! They work so well and come in so many fun prints and colors! And the price is so affordable! I am so excited to have Sunbaby Diapers as a sponsor for the Mother's Day Cloth Diaper Giveaway Hop!

Sunbaby is graciously giving away one Sunbaby 4.0 Pocket Diaper for the Mother's Day Cloth Diaper Giveaway Hop here on The Not-So-Secret Confessions of a Second Time Mom!

Mother's Day Cloth Diaper Giveaway Hop Sponsor Spotlight+Review! {Softbums!}

I'm excited to tell you about another sponsor for the Mother's Day Cloth Diaper Giveaway Hop-Softbums! I was also given the opportunity to review their Echo Diaper and I'm going to tell you all about it!

Softbums was created by husband and wife Sarah and Brian Van Bogart. Sarah has been sewing and designing diapers for over ten years. They've created the true one-size diaper with their Slide2Size system which is adjustable leg elastic so the diaper can fit chunky babies and skinny babies alike! They are committed to helping make cloth diapers work for parents with quality products and quality service!

I was sent the Softbums Echo System with a Dry Touch Pod to review. This diaper is sort of a one-size AI2 that is made up of a waterproof shell and a detachable pod. Instead of snaps to make the diaper one-size, the Echo shell let's you adjust the leg openings with a drawstring that is hidden perfectly inside the diaper! With this drawstring the leg openings can adjust from 2 inches to 14 inches easily and discreetly, making this truly a one-size diaper! The pods come in three different types- dry touch, super dry touch, and organic bamboo. So you are able to choose what sort of absorbency you want!

I received the Echo Diaper in Nuclear Pumpkin and I love this color! It is such a bright, happy color! It took me a few tries to get the leg openings the right size for Isaac but once I did the fit was perfect! Not too tight, giving him red marks, but not too loose causing leaks either! I really like that the pod attaches to the diaper with a snap so it doesn't slide around while he's wearing it. But it's removable also so it's easy to wash and dry it! The opening to the drawstring confused me a little bit; I thought it was a tear in the stitching! But after looking harder I realized what it was and it's really not a big deal.
Overall I really like this diaper! I get a great fit around the legs and waist and because of that we have no leaks whatsoever! It's simple to use and does the job!

Softbums is graciously giving away one Echo Diaper System in winner's choice of color for the Mother's Day Cloth Diapering Giveaway Hop prize package here on The Not-So-Secret Confessions of a Second Time Mom!
Be sure to come back Tuesday, May 1st for your chance to win!!

Thirty-One Casual Cargo Purse Review & Giveaway!

If you read my sponsored post last week about Thirty-One, you know I didn't know that much about the company but have really grown to like it. I love the philosophy behind the company. The company is named Thirty-One after Proverbs 31 in the Bible. I was given the opportunity to review the Casual Cargo Purse from Thirty-One by Aimee and not only do I love the philosophy now, but I also LOVE the products!

The Casual Cargo Purse is a fairly large purse that is perfect if you are a mom on the go! I am actually using it for a diaper bag right now because it is the perfect size! I can fit all my baby necessities in it as well as anything I need for myself! It's even big enough for me to put cloth diapers in as well as cloth wipes, a wetbag, and change of clothes! I have both Noah and Isaac's things in this bag with some room to spare! The best part is it zips closed! So when I have this bag on my shoulder with Isaac in one arm and holding Noah's hand with the other I don't have to worry about things falling out of the bag! I also love that it has pockets that shut with a magnetic button on the outside. It makes it super easy to stick a paci or something else in it quickly. There are also four more regular pockets and a larger pocket that zips shut on the inside of the bag!
I am in LOVE with my Thirty-One Casual Cargo Purse! It works perfectly as my diaper bag now! I will never go back to a regular diaper bag again! This bag is great for not only a diaper bag, but an overnight bag, or just a regular purse! It makes a great gift or something to treat yourself with! Or if you're looking for something bigger or smaller, Thirty-One has it bags in every shape and size for every need you might have!

Mommy Talk Tuesday {Sleep!}

The Not So Secret Confessions of
a Second Time Mom

Welcome back to Mommy Talk Tuesday!

This week's topic is Sleep! Does your child sleep through the night? If so, when did they start sleeping through the night? Do/Did you sleep train? Tips and/or questions your have for other moms are great too!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sleep has been a huge issue for us for about the past two months and we are finally starting to get some sleep again! Noah has always been a good sleeper. We had a few bumps along the way but he pretty much slept through the night from about 5 months on. At 2 years old he was sleeping 12 hours at night and taking a 1-2 hour nap every day with no problems. Then about two months ago he started fighting bedtime and coming out of his room after we had already put him to bed! Then after we would finally get him to stay in bed and go to sleep he'd get up 2-3 times a night! Sometimes he'd legitimately have to pee in the middle of the night but other times he would just get up and not want to go back to bed. This has gone on for a while now but it is slowly getting better. I think part of it is being scared ..either of the dark..or things that might be in the dark...and part is just him not wanting to go to bed. He's starting to do better though. He hardly puts up a fight at bedtime now and is usually only up once a night to pee.

Isaac was doing really well also until about two months ago! But he's also sleeping much better now too. When he was about a month old he started sleeping 8 hours straight! He would go to bed late (10 or 11pm) but would then sleep until 7 am! Then at about 3 months old he started waking every 2-4 hours again and kept this up until just recently! He's now 5 months and will usually sleep about 6-8 hours straight before waking. We've done a bit of sleep training with him and I think that has helped a lot. He'll occasionally sleep 10-12 hours, which is so awesome! I've read a number of times that around 3-4 months babies start sleeping more like adults so they have to learn how to sleep basically which is why I think sleep training is so helpful. We're still not where we want to be but he's still little. Hopefully as time goes on he'll be able to put himself to sleep and soothe himself when he wakes and eventually sleep through the night completely!

We'd love to hear your thoughts on Sleep so please comment below or write up a blog post and link up!

Finding My New Normal
I'm an American living in London with my amazing husband. On August 13, 2010 our lives were shattered when we lost our son at 36 weeks pregnant. After struggling with infertility for many years, we thought we were finally going to have our miracle baby. Sadly, this is not what happened and I struggle every day to make sense of it all. But I am determined to get my life back. Not my old life of course, but a new life,,, a new normal. I have no idea how I am going to find it yet but I just know I will. We decided to try for another baby using an egg donor. In October of 2011 we got the wonderful news that I'm pregnant again. Now we're just hoping and praying that this baby sticks around and becomes our take home baby. As I am quickly realizing, pregnancy after loss is no walk in the park. So watch for lots of writing about how The Hubby and I navigate our way through it all. I'm starting to think that my new normal is going to be much more complicated and stressful than my old normal ever was.

Happy Birthday Noah!!

My baby is 3 years old today!! I can't believe it has already been 3 years already! This sweet amazing little boy has rocked my world and makes me a better person every day! I am so lucky to be called his mama!

Real Diaper Week 2012! {Cloth Diapering from Day 1}

Photobucket

When I started using cloth Noah was already 7 months old so when I found out I was pregnant with Isaac I was excited (and a bit nervous) about cloth diapering a newborn! I really didn't know anything about what it would be like to cloth diaper a newborn and was actually so intimidated by it that for a while I had just decided to use disposables until he could fit into my one-sized diapers that I had from Noah. But then I decided to just give it a shot and if it didn't' work well then I would have some disposables on hand just in case.

Although we decided to give newborn cloth diapering a try we decided NOT to cloth diaper in the hospital. I wasn't sure how I would be feeling and I didn't want to have to worry about washing diapers as soon as I got home from the hospital so we just decided to wait until we got home. But I do know plenty of mamas who did use cloth in the hospital, right from the very beginning! Most said they just spoke to the nurses and told them they wanted to put the baby in cloth and showed them how to use the diaper and the nurses we're completely fine with it. And then after that first diaper, the parents are usually the ones to change the baby's diaper anyway so it's not really an issue after that. If you are expecting and want to cloth diaper in the hospital I suggest talking to someone from the hospital and finding out how they feel about it and then go for it!

Once we started using cloth on Isaac I realized it wasn't as difficult as I thought it might be! The only issue I had was I didn't have enough newborn diapers that fit him! Newborns go pee and poop so much you really need quite a lot of diapers for them! I tried prefolds with covers but really preferred the newborn AIOs much better. My favorite newborn cloth diaper was the BumGenius Newborn AIO. It fit my little guy so well and was so easy to use!
Isaac in a BumGenius Newborn AIO at 8 days old

My tips for anyone interested in cloth diapering from Day 1 are to make sure you have enough diapers ( 24-30 if you plan to wash every other day), find out if your hospital is open to it and willing to put your baby in cloth right away, and to just be prepared for lots of fluffy cuteness! There is seriously nothing cuter than a newborn in a cloth diaper!

Changing Diapers: The Hip Mom's Guide to Modern Cloth Diapering {Book Review!}

KellyWels.com

A lot of mom's that I have talked to find cloth diapering interesting and intriguing but don't take the plunge and start because there is so much to learn! There are different types of cloth diapers, certain ways to wash them, and all sorts of lingo that makes no sense if you're not a cloth diapering parent! It can be quite overwhelming and a bit scary. But Kelly Wells, a leading cloth diaper expert, understands that and has published a book that makes learning all there is to know about cloth diapers simple! Changing Diapers: The Hip Mom's Guide to Modern Cloth Diapering answers all the many questions parents have about cloth diapers and how to get started using them!
I was given the opportunity to review this book, and even though I have been cloth diapering for nearly 3 years now, I still learned some things! This book is an easy read. It's not a super long book with tons of over the top descriptions and big words. It's fairly short and simple and it even has pictures!

This book covers all the great reasons for using cloth diapers, all the different kinds of cloth diapers (with pictures of each one and how it works), and how to get started cloth diapering. It tells you how many cloth diapers you will need for newborn, infant, and toddler. It shows you (with pictures and descriptions!) how to wash cloth diapers.It tells you what accessories you will need. It even gives advice on convincing your daycare and hubby to use cloth diapers!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I have been cloth diapering for almost 3 years and I was amazed at how much I learned! I never knew much about hemp or wool but this book explained them both really well! I was able to read this book in just a few days (with two kiddos keeping me busy) and if I didn't know anything about cloth diapers before reading this I think I would have been a lot more confident in my decision to cloth diaper after reading it! It's a great book for both mom and dad to read and learn the ins and outs of cloth!

If you or someone you know is interested in cloth diapering I highly urge you to read this book! It answers any questions you might have about cloth diapering! It's one of those books you can keep on the shelf and flip through anytime you have questions or problems and it will give you the answer! This book is great for yourself or as a gift!

Mommy Talk Tuesday! {Cloth Diapers!}

The Not So Secret Confessions of
a Second Time Mom

This week's topic for Mommy Talk Tuesday is Cloth Diapers! Do you cloth diaper? If not, why not? If so, what convinced you to switch to cloth? What do you love about cloth? What are is your favorite diaper or type of diaper? Any troubleshooting questions? Feel free to ask!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you probably know I do cloth diaper! I started cloth diapering when Noah was about 7 months old and cloth diapered him until he was potty trained last summer. I have been cloth diapering Isaac pretty much since he was born. I originally became interested in cloth diapers because I wanted to save us some money. Disposables were not cheap and we were tight financially. Once I got started I never went back!

I love everything about cloth diapering! It saves me money, it's good for my baby, and it's good for the environment! I never have to run to the store just for some diapers...the most I ever have to do is do a load of laundry. I love how cute they look on my baby! I love how easy they are to use! Even my husband loves them!

My favorite cloth diapers are pockets. Especially Fuzzibunz. I LOVE the Perfect Size Fuzzibunz and just ordered some more for my stash! I can't wait to get some fluffy mail!

And because he's so cute..here's a picture of Isaac in his cloth!

Thirty-One with Aimee {Sponsored Post}

Have you heard of Thirty-One yet? I discovered Thirty-One a few years ago but have recently learned more about the business from a great independent director, Aimee Buckert!

"Thirty-One is one of the fastest growing direct-selling companies in the country and is the #1 direct-selling brand of exclusive, on-trend, stylish and practical handbags, fashion accessories, totes, and organizing solutions. Thirty-One's founder Cindy Monroe began the company in 2003 out of her basement to address the need of providing affordable and fashionable products previously available only at exclusive boutiques that closed at 5 p.m. – too early for working women to shop there. Thirty-One exists because Cindy wanted to provide an opportunity for women to find financial freedom through owning their own business in direct selling. Thirty-One's name comes from Proverbs 31:31, which celebrates hard-working women. Thirty-One continually focuses on celebrating, encouraging and rewarding women!"

Aimee started with Thirty-One in September of 2010. Her youngest child was premature and the hospital bills were beginning to pile up. After receiving a catalog from a consultant she talked about joining Thirty-One with her husband. They decided to charge the $99 start-up fee in hopes that they would be able to pay it pack with her earnings and also hopefully pay for Christmas that year. Well the business took off fast and the paycheck she received right before Christmas was $923!! She had earned enough to pay off the start-up fee and for Christmas in just two weeks! They are continuing to pay for things debt-free and have also been able to help a family in need with their Christmas all because of Thirty-One! Aimee says her business is continuing to grow! She mentors 46 other consultants in 12 different states,  and she loves sharing what Thirty-One is all about because it's not just about purses!

Starting April 16 (today!) through May 31st is the Opportunity to Join Incentive! This incentive gives new consultants the opportunity to earn a $99 rebate on their Enrollment Kit when they submit $1,000 of personal volume in their first 30 days! This basically means they can get their Enrollment Kit for FREE! Beginning today, new consultants have a choice of two Enrollment kits. One featuring many of the new spring patterns, and the other featuring the black and white patterns. In addition to the $99 rebate, new consultants will receive the Enrollment Kit of $300 worth of product and business supplies, at least $250 in commission, and will be well on their way to earning other business products for FREE!

If you are looking for a way to earn more money and enjoy doing it, now is the best time to join Thirty-One! Visit Aimee's Website for more information, to make a purchase, and to contact her about joining!

Be on the lookout for a Review/Giveaway coming next week from Thirty-One with Aimee!

Real Diaper Week! How it All Began! {Cloth 101}

Photobucket

I became interested in cloth diapers when Noah was about 6 months old. A few of my friends were using cloth and it seemed very interesting to me. Plus, money was super tight and I thought that it would be a great way to save some money! But then I started looking online and saw the initial start up costs of cloth diapering and thought there was no way we would be able to do it. But then a friend told me about a local cloth diaper store that did a Trial Program so you could try out different kinds and see if it was something you really wanted to do.

So I talked to my husband and convinced him that it would save us money in the long run and went to visit the local store! The owner of the store was super helpful and showed me the different types of cloth diapers and how they worked and explained how you wash cloth diapers and answered all of our questions! Then we got to take home one of each kind of cloth diaper (prefolds to AIO) for two weeks to try for only $10! We could then decide what we wanted to keep and use and buy those, and then bring back the ones we didn't want to use! It was so great!

So what about the initial start up cost? I mean I couldn't keep the trial diapers forever unless I bought them, and I would need more than 2 or 3 to actually save money. So this is what I did. I bought 3 diapers that I liked from the diaper trial. They were fitteds so they weren't the higher priced diapers. I still had to use disposables the majority of the time, but every paycheck I would buy one or two more cloth diapers until I had a full stash! So instead of spending a couple hundred dollars right from the beginning I gradually created my diaper stash and then started saving money once I had enough cloth diapers!

Noah in his first cloth diaper at 7 months! (A prefold with Thirsties cover)

If you are interested in using cloth diapers I highly suggest you look online for a local retailer! A lot of cloth diaper stores offer trial programs just like the one I did! And even if they don't, if you check out a local store you can see all the different kinds of cloth diapers and have someone answer all your questions in person!
I'm linking up with The Eco Chic this week for the Real Diaper Week Blog Hop! Come check out all the blog posts and link up too!

My name is Andrea.  I am a 34 year old mother and wife.  My twin boys, Hayden and Logan, are 3 1/2 years old and they like to destroy things, as most little boys do.  I often will affectionately refer to them as “the turkeys” in my musings.  I do this primarily, because they often act like wild turkeys, particularly in public places and probably because they make me want to toss back a shot of wild turkey after a harrowing day.  Not really, wild turkey is gross, but from time to time I’ve been know to pop open an ice cold Miller Lite and thank God it is almost bedtime.  I also have a tendency to swear a little, but no worries, there are no f-bombs permitted here.  The husband vetoed that one.  But all other words are fair game.  Because clean words sometimes just do not get the point across.  Despite those obvious imperfections, I am a lover of God and beyond grateful for all His blessings in our lives.  My blog is a sarcastic, quirky little creation, often random and sometimes funny.
