Decisions, Decisions

Noah is growing up. FAST! And with that comes all these new milestones. First the toddler bed is coming and then potty training. I'm having a hard time trying to figure out when is the right time to start potty training. I have about 30 diapers in my stash and its takes me 3 full days to go through all of those...sometimes not even all of them! So thats less than 10 dipes a day. He doesn't pee near as often as he used to, but he doesn't show much interest in going potty in his potty either. He used to tell me when he pooped in his diaper but now he rarely does that too.

So I'm debating on de-stashing my diaper stash and getting some training pants to try. But Idk. I've heard so many things about potty training to early or waiting on their cues. Its all so hard! I definately think its time for less diapers, which makes me sad, but when is the right time to really start potty training?

Oh the many decisions of mommyhood!! Thanks for letting me think out loud ya'll! Feel free to chime in with any thoughts! :)

  1. I'm battling the same dilemma right now with my 21 month old daughter. I'm planning on trying next week since I'll be home from work, but just not sure if she's ready yet...

  2. I'm about to start this process with my daughter, who will be 2 next month. The only things I know for sure are that they should have a semi-regular going schedule and wake up dry from naps before stressing over potty training. I don't want to start at the holidays (too many deviations from the norm, not to mention unfamiliar potties...) so I'll be researching for the new year. I'll let you know if I find any good books or websites.

This also means I'll have to switch my daughter to a toddler bed. I'm not sure I'm ready for that...

  3. Oh, do what works best for you. Everyone has their own opinion, which is great, for them and their kids, but you are you and you have your kids.
My family has always been potty trained by 2, that's just the way we roll, but we have friends who's kids were almost 4. Some of the other parents said things nasty to me about potty training early, but they aren't me.
So, my best advise, do what works best for you.

  4. I got a potty chair at 9 months old!! He didn't want anything to do with it right away but I would leave it in his room to play with. Never pottyed in of corase. But once he could walk it was easier. I started putting him on it around 13 months and he went a few times but got frustrated. I finally let him run around NAKED. Yes NAKED. No I was not crazy. He pooed and peed on the floor a few times yes but after that he went right to the potty. Now at almost 2 he is fully learned during the day and dry at naps. Going to work on night times soon. But he still runs around naked and if he has to go he gets up and goes to the potty. No questions asked. Don't need to tell me or anything. We have him in underwear most the time and he tells us now before he pees. He use to pee enough to felt wetness. Oh and some advice on training pants?
Target Gerber non waterproof training pants. Walmart has them as well but changed the brand to carters child of mine. They have padding to hold some pee but not alot. And as long as it's a few drops your fine.
And a great sign for readiness is when they can stop the flow of urine before finishing completely. Goodluck.

  5. My son is almost three. He isn't interesting in potty training, but I am going to start in the new year. I will try to bribe him with juice. We never have juice in the house.
