Losing the Baby Weight

I kind of expected losing the baby weight to be a bit harder the second time around, but I didn't expect it would be this hard! I was so excited at first because right off the bat I dropped 10lbs..I assume from breastfeeding. Then after about a month I had lost 15lbs total...only 5 more to go! But here we are at three months  postpartum and those 5lbs have not come off yet. You're probably thinking..well it's only 5 pounds..it can't make that much of a difference. But it's all in my middle. I still look 5 months pregnant! It's so ugly to me. 


So I've been doing Jillian Michael's 30 day shred at least 2x a week and taking a zumba class once a week, but still having trouble losing those extra pounds. I think my big issue is food. I don't really want to diet while nursing and I'm always STARVING since I'm nursing. But I definitely need to cut back on the chocolate and cookies and junk food! 


So how did YOU lose the baby weight?! Or have you yet? How long did it take for you to lose the weight? What did you do to lose the weight?! Help a girl out here!

  1. I have a 5 month old son and I lost quite a bit of weight right off.. not all my baby weight but pretty close.. now I'm putting on weight again even though I don't eat that much.. I still look pregnant and I feel really unattractive. :-( I have lupus so its hard for me to exercise.

  2. My son is 16 months old and I still have 10 more lbs before pre-baby weight. That shit didn't come off of me over night or even while breastfeeding. I am happy to say I am much more happier knowing I only have 10lbs to go. I seriously took depression meds and that made me skinny again.

  3. Those last 5lbs are the most stubborn. I've gained and lost the same 5lbs for months and months. Then I started using my fitness pal to track my eating, tried to make sure I ate 5 serving of fruits and veggies a day, and really watch my portion sizes. I try to exercise when I can as well. I noticed that what I thought was 3oz of steak was closer to 6 or 7 oz. I've finally lost it, but I'm still unhappy with my doughy middle so I'm trying to lose another 5. It's tough, it really is.

  4. Those last few pounds are the hardest to get off. Here I am 9 months postpartum and I'm still struggling to get off these last few pounds. Drinking lots of water and cutting out sodas and other high sugar drinks and foods help though.

  5. This isn't going to help you much, but with my second I ended up getting a 24 hours flu about 2 weeks after birth which resulted in my loosing all my baby weight.

    I think at 3 months post partum with only 5lbs left you are doing great!

    I have heard that losing that last tiny bit can be difficult as long as you are breastfeeding. So perhaps this is what it is.

  6. I think any weight loss is a balance. You need to each the correct portion sizes, avoid sugars and carbs. Including breads.

  7. 5lbs is awesome but i realize that numbers can be different for each person. personally i'm excited where i am at at 6mo out. i didn't hit my goal of 10lbs out from my pre baby weight but i am becoming ok with that because i've seen improvement. i eat right, i'm breastfeeding on demand and i am working out (running, weight training, yoga etc) like i was before having #3. i'm still about 15lbs from what i was but i realize my body will hold fat like it always has while i am breastfeeding. i may not be my size 6 but i am an 8 so after having 3 kids and pushing 35 i'm ok with that lol

  8. I hear you! I am 16 months post partum (and newly pregnant) but at 14 months post partum and not pregnant I had lost all but 2lbs and still maintained the slightly pregnant look. I think in my case part of my issue is a diastis (sp?) recti problem identified at my first pre-natel appointment with my midwives.
    I'm not sure if it helps but I was told the following by a personal trainer. A) your body will hold onto some extra fat for as long as you are breastfeeding B) broken sleep (which I'm sure you experience) causes an increase in stress hormones in your body which in many people leads to some weight gain/retention in their mid section. In both of these cases you should see some improvement over time and might not be able to get rid of it because your body is holding it for a reason.

  9. I lost all my baby weight for #2 within 6 weeks after she was born. BUT, I was still 16 pounds over my weight before #1's birth, and getting THAT off has been a nightmare. I lost 8 pounds with diet alone, made time to exercise, gained 6 back, stopped exercising and have maintained weight for the last 2 months. It's ridiculous. And all this extra fat in my middle is so un-sexy. :(

  10. Just started following you! I still have a good amount of baby weight to lose, actually I'm lying I think I have lost all but 5 lbs of the baby weight but I weighed 10 lbs more then I wanted to when I got pregnant so that's really the big issue. It's so hard especially when you are nursing, let me know the secret when you find out!
